Task 1: listen to the definitions of the shipping terms and payment methods and match the definition with the following terms. (answers and script omitted)

C&F---The Cost Freight is a trade term referring to the seller’s responsibility to arrange for the transport of goods by sea to the port of destinationThe seller must also provide the buyer with the necessary documents to obtain the goods from the carrier

FOB---Free On Board is a trade term referring to the seller’s responsibility to deliver goods on board a vessel designated by the buyer

FAS---Free Alongside Ship is a trade term referring to the seller’s responsibility to deliver goods alongside a vessel designated by the buyer at a named port

Task 2:

You will hear an importer talking about enquiries. Listen and fill in the blanks. (answers and script omitted)

1.      Repeat the dialogue and pay attention to the key sentences.

1) We are interested in buying large quantities of steel screws in all sizes.

2) It would also be appreciated if you would give us a quotation per kilogram CIF Liverpool, England.

Video 1: Enquiring price (询价)

1. New words and expressions: breeze; backlog; speedboat; around the corner; inventory; etc.

2. Pre-viewing: Read the following chart to have a rough idea of the video.

1)      The seller: Rocky, the owner of a small company that manufactures recreational speedboats.

2)      The buyer: Jacques, the owner of a seaside resort in New Zealand, is having a telephone conversation with Rocky and they are talking about ordering speedboats.

3. Viewing: Watch the video and try to fill in the following blanks.

4. Post-viewing: Work in pairs. One of you plays the role of seller and the other plays the role of buyer. Make a dialogue according to the following situation.

       The buyer receives and ad letter of product catalogue and price list from the seller. He calls the seller for further details of the price, terms of payment and terms of shipment. The buyer hopes the seller could offer him the most reasonable price.

Video 2: Commission (佣金)

1.New words and expressions: commission; hardware; indication of price; etc.

2.      Pre-viewing: Read the following chart to have a rough idea of the video.
